It  consist of 11 separate forest sites spread over some two hundred kilometers along the coast containing the remains of numerous fortified villages, known as kayas, of the Mijikenda people. 

Gede Ruins and Museum

Having numerous ruins comprising of mosques and houses all nestled within 45 acres of forest, the Museum traces its origin to the Twelfth Century and was rebuilt with new town walls in the Fifteenth and Sixteenth Centuries.
